Comic books have ridiculous storylines. Especially older comics. I guess if you have one alien, you can have several, but that doesn't work so well in movies. I've been reading a lot of the older comics and it's amazing the difference between comics from the 30's and 40's and current comics.
Though there are some elements that I wonder why they were abandoned. Originally Superman could mold his face using his superiour muscle control to look different. So when he was Clark Kent he looked different than when he was Superman, it wasn't just a matter of putting on a pair of glasses and combing his hair differently. Seems like that is one of the main points of contention for people who are not fans of Superman.
It's been over 60 years since that was a viable power, so I don't think modern audiences would buy it. Nice thought though.
